I was at a stage of not seeing my life being able to move on from staying at home all the time, if I did go out I was always in a hurry back, I had lost interest in a lot of areas and the idea of going back to work was non existent.

I am now working part time in my local area and enjoying it. I am also an adult Literacy tutor for the Donegal VEC and I assist with a support group set up to help people with mental health difficulties. I have taken up golf again and it has more of a purpose now than before and I thoroughly enjoy it.

I completed the “Making Connections” programme in Ballyshannon in 2007. Looking back the programme helped me to focus on and work towards the areas I had an interest in and supported me along that journey. The first steps were difficult but I am glad I took the time to get involved and knowing that there is support there and I call in when passing by is also good.

The social skills training and support that our 21 year old son has received from APP on their programme for adults with Asperger syndrome has led to him loosing 4 stone in weight which in turn has helped him to lead
a more healthy and active life.

It has also given him the confidence to pursue third level education, living away from home and it also has given me, his mother the confidence to let him go.
